Garth Tander in his Toll HSV Dealer Team Holden claimed the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship
in a thrilling final round at Phillip Island.
Tander won the round to claim his first Championship win by just 2 points from Ford rival Jamie Whincup.
Tander had been dominant all year, winning four rounds and a total of 15 races, but he started the final
round seven championship points behind Whincup. However, he saved his best until last,
winning the first two races of the final round setting
himself up with a seven point advantage over Whincup.
In a tense final race of the season, Garth only needed to start well and keep Whincup in his sights.
Whincup's one chance to take victory was to win the final race, but a hard fought battle with Todd Kelly did not go his
way and he was forced to concede 2nd place in the race and in the and in the Championship.
For V8 fans, the 2007 final round will be remembered as one of the closest and most dramatic finishes in
Championship history. For the Toll HSV Dealer Team it was a chance to celebrate back-to-back Championship
wins and for Garth Tander it was time to celebrate his long awaited prize ... his first Championship win.
